KLAL KIDS – 2008/2009
Klal Kids is a fun-filled series of Sunday morning learn-and-play sessions designed for kindergarteners through 2nd graders. Each session lasts for 1-1/2 hours from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. The time is spent learning about the topic of the day through arts and crafts, stories, songs and snacks.
Students in kindergarten through first grade will concentrate on learning the meaning behind and customs for Jewish holidays. To avoid undue repetition, we use a two-year curriculum. This year we use activities and student materials developed by our current Grade 2 teacher, Robert P. Next year, year two of the cycle, we will use the Let's Discover the Holidays series as the basis of class work.
The program consists of eight sessions, scheduled as follows:
| September 21 | Shabbat | January 11 | Tu B'Shvat | |
| October 12 | Simchat Torah | February 8 | Purim | |
| November 16 | Mitzvot and Tzedakah | March 29 | Pesach | |
| December 14 | Chanukah | May 17 | Israel Independence Day |
Students in grade 2 will learn about the ins and outs and purposes for the synagogue itself, and then about the basic core values of "doing good" in a Jewish way: the key mitzvot or commandments.
The topics have been chosen so that there will be a connection between the subject matter being studied in Grade 2 and the holidays of the season.
We will use activities and student materials from the series Let's Discover the Synagogue and Let's Discover Mitzvot.
The program consists of eight sessions, scheduled as follows:
| September 21 | The Synagogue: What It's For and the Ritual Objects | January 11 | Mitzvot: Save the Earth and Derech Eretz | |
| October 12 | The Synagogue: How We Pray; The Rabbi and the Cantor | February 8 | Mitzvot: Tzedakah; Feed the Hungry | |
| November 16 | The Synagogue: The Torah | March 29 | Mitzvot: Visit the Sick; Welcome Guests | |
| December 14 | The Synagogue: A Place to Learn and Celebrate | May 17 | Mitzvot: Guard Your Tongue; Talmud Torah |
